Pearl R Starch is basic, unmodified corn starch is buffered with calcium carbonate to make it suitable for "in house" mill conversion with alpha-amylase. Buffering maintains slurry pH at about 6.5-7.0, the range in which enzyme activity is greatest. Even with the attendant expenses of makeup included, the low cost and functional equality of Pearl R allow it to compete with many of the more expensive, modified starches used in size press and coating pastes.

Applications
  • For size press applications, Pearl R is usually converted at a solids concentration of 12%-25%. Departures from this range are dictated by mill demand, storage facilities, and the size of the cooking tank itself.
  • When used as a coating adhesive, Pearl R is usually converted at 25% - 35% solids.
